Whatever is happening with the rest of the economy, it would appear that more people than ever are
searching for homes abroad. The first half of 2008 saw the number of property searches conducted on
Rightmove Overseas rise by 26 per cent compared with the same period of 2007, to over 10.2 million.

Among the 10 most popular destinations, the largest increase in searches was seen in the USA,
where searches were 50 per cent up and averaged 190,000 per month. Over the first six months,
69 per cent of all searches have been for properties in Rightmove's top 10 countries. The two most
popular, Spain and France, make up one third of all searches.

Outside the top 10, some of the destinations that have seen the largest increase in search numbers
are Egypt (up 195%), Morocco (up 165%), and the Central American country of Panama (106%).
